Silver spokes season beginning soon!

Hi Everyone:

We thought this day might not come but we are happy to say we are looking at getting our 2021 cycling season kicked off with a Canada Day ride on Thursday July 1 starting at 9:30 AM sharp.  The starting point is

Ramblin’ Road Brewery Farm

2970 Swimming Pool Rd, La Salette, ON

They are open on Canada Day and we are welcome to park there for the ride, and stay for food/beverages on their picnic tables after the ride.

If it rains ( hopefully not ) we would do the ride on Saturday July 3.

The plan is to have a recreational speed ride of somewhere between 45 and 55 km as many members may not have been riding a great deal so far. The goal of this ride is to get together again as a group and gauge who’s interested in getting the season underway.

If you are considering joining the group on July 1 please contact me directly at john.verbakel@rogers.com by no later than Thursday June 24. Once we get a critical mass by June 24, the next step would be to officially join the club before riding. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Hoping to see you there.

Here’s where you can sign up …

2021 Season Update

As we all know, the 2020 season did not materialize. However, the Club executive are optimistic that better times are ahead and we are hoping to begin the 2021 season by July 1st, when it is safe to do so. Online 2021 season membership registration is now operational.

In the mean time, as Spring weather conditions arrive, we are encouraging all past and prospective new members to prepare for the upcoming season. We believe that bike shops are experiencing issues with parts supply delays. So, arrange to have your bike tuned up and ready to go as soon as possible! In addition, riders will need to get their fitness up to par, so get those solo rides going as soon as you can!

Women’s Day Ride

First Ladies Group
The Silver Spokes Cycling Club and Ontario Cycling Association has chosen Sunday, May 20th as Women’s Day – and is offering a ladies-only ride.  All riders are exempt from membership or OCA fees this day, so it’s a great chance to see what group cycling is all about. You can get more ride and contact information here: Ladies Day Ride.
CCN has created a registration link – which leads to more information/ details as well as a waiver for riders to sign.  Club members do NOT have to register for this event – but encourage any potential riders to follow this link:   Women’s Day Registration
This will be a social ride, with a distance of 35 – 40km.  Ramblin’ Road has agreed to open early for the event and will have washrooms available before the ride.  We also encourage riders to stay afterwards and have lunch or a drink – and answer any questions they may have.  Start time is 10 a.m.
Connect with me if you have any questions.  Happy riding!
